Three familiar Pittsburgh faces gathered for a very cheerful assignment at the 911th Airlift Wing’s Family Day: Iceburgh, Duke and the Pirate Parrot. A Sept. 12 photo from Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station shows the mascots posing with Defenders from the 911th Security Forces Squadron.

The wing’s photo caption says the annual Family Day celebrates Steel Airmen and their families. That makes the mascots’ group portrait an excellent piece of local community business: a penguin, a duke and a parrot arriving with enough costume energy to make a standard photo line feel like a tiny parade.

Buster Barkley, Hilarious News’ Boston terrier lead, reviewed the evidence from his notebook. “Three mascots in one frame is a serious civic achievement,” he reported. “The clipboard may wish to prepare itself for applause.”

A warm welcome in Pittsburgh

The official image places the moment at Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station in Pennsylvania. Iceburgh represents the Pittsburgh Penguins, Duke represents Duquesne University and the Pirate Parrot represents the Pittsburgh Pirates. Their appearance joined a family-day setting created for the wing’s people and the people who support them.

The verified picture centers on a community gathering, a photo with the 911th Security Forces Squadron, and a lineup of local mascots sharing the frame. Buster says the portrait carries plenty of personality and a particularly persuasive case for bringing snacks to every civic occasion.

The strongest part is the simple one. A recurring family gathering gave Pittsburgh’s sports characters a moment with the Steel Airmen and their families, and the official photo preserved it. For readers who enjoy a day where the guest list spans a penguin, a parrot and a duke, that is a very solid dispatch.
