Rita Raccoon has checked the weekend guest list at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, and it has excellent range: black-footed ferrets, hawks, hands-on activities, and a chance to try archery.
The refuge’s free Refuge Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the visitor center. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service describes it as a family-friendly event with wildlife activity tables, close-up encounters with black-footed ferrets and hawks, arts and crafts, face painting, and more.
A very full afternoon itinerary
The archery range opens for try-it archery from noon to 2 p.m., giving visitors an activity to pair with the wildlife displays and creative stations. The schedule leaves room for a relaxed arrival, a look around, and a carefully considered decision about which activity deserves the first stop.

Wildlife with a welcoming introduction
The event’s close-up encounters put two very different animals on the same afternoon program: black-footed ferrets and hawks. Refuge Day also offers a chance to learn about local wildlife through activity tables and to enjoy the festival.
Rita’s field note: a schedule that moves from ferrets to archery has range in both the literal and editorial senses. The event is free and open to families, with the refuge listing the visitor center as the location.
Details: Saturday, September 26, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Mountain Time; try-it archery, noon–2 p.m. Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. See the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service event listing for the program details.
