The Bronx River became a classroom, a kitchen garden, and a stage on September 22, when a community gathering at Concrete Plant Park paired plant knowledge with poetry and river history.

The event page describes a foraging walk through the Foodway, with plant identification, herbal medicine, and a look at the Bronx River’s community-led history. Organizers also invited neighbors to imagine the river’s next chapter with poet and performer La Bruja.

Cleo Claws followed the trail with a notebook full of leaf sketches and one excellent question: why do the best neighborhood field trips always end with a poem?

A warm illustrated view of a river gathering with plant knowledge and poetry.

The gathering’s blend of ecology, culture, and local voices offered a lively example of a city park becoming a place for shared discovery.
