Hot Springs National Park has placed one of life’s most quietly competitive questions on the table: which spring water earns the top sip?
At the annual Hot Springs Water Festival on Saturday, October 10, visitors can vote in a spring-water tasting competition alongside music, demonstrations, interactive booths and craft activities. The free festival runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Arlington Lawn near Bathhouse Row.
For a city whose name has already set expectations, this is an unusually strong commitment to product testing.
Rita’s official tasting plan: arrive curious
Rita Raccoon will be approaching the cups with the humility of a professional consumer reporter and the focus of someone who has inspected several suspiciously good puddles. The park has not announced a winning spring in advance; the vote belongs to festival participants.
That detail gives the day a pleasantly local rhythm. Visitors can sample, compare and help choose a favorite while spending time on the lawn at the edge of the historic bathhouse district.

A small competition with a larger watershed story
The festival also gives its water-themed afternoon a conservation purpose. According to the National Park Service, Hot Springs National Park, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Mystic Ozark, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Friends of Hot Springs National Park will highlight work connected to the area’s water and watersheds.
That makes the tasting contest a friendly front door to a bigger conversation: water supports places, communities and the outdoor experiences people share. The festival’s music, demonstrations and hands-on activities give visitors several ways to follow that thread.
For anyone who enjoys a civic event with both a purpose and a tiny paper cup, Hot Springs has set the table.
